In an ideal world for internet marketing, each advertiser on internet will manage his pay per click campaigns smoothly, using great tools for keywords relevancy research, offline editors to organize his campaigns.

This looks like Google Adwords, and it is. But what about each search engine specificity? Being very good on Europe, in the States, in Canada, in Middle East and so on is a big specificity for each search engine. Not to mention the captive market each search engine has developped over the years.

No search engine can replace all of them. When an industry group wants to become stronger, it has to develop standards and allow their customers to work with all of them in an easy and efficient way.

Of course, being able to use easily the same campaign on different search engines is just a beginning. After that, each campaign will be tailored, using each search engine's own keywods research tool, to adapt efficiently to their specific markets.

There is a market gap, in my view, in allowing advertisers to share their marketing campaigns over different search engines. It is probably no too difficult to make a bridge between Google and MSN, but a tool has to be developped for that. Other major stakeholders in Internet Marketing should also allow their customers to easily import marketing campaigns, but Yahoo does not.

The idea to shrink the number of stakeholders on the advertising market looks weird to me, especially when the market is developing so much and needs so much diversity.

However, this might be a necessary step to allow diversity and quality services for advertisers.

I hope consolidation will bring equivalent quality over services, but also stability in this market and more tools for sharing different marketing platforms.

Any stakeholder interested in providing tools for campaign sharing over different search engines should get on the bandwagon. The need is huge and someone might be at the edge of normalization after all.

When people think of doing internet marketing to be successful, and if they do not want to pay premium prices for Pay per Click campaign or SEO Services, they begin to think of what they can do themselves.

They wonder about what can work, then they read all this excellent stuff about SEO, keywords, blogs etc...
Basically they begin to understand and try something, wait to see a result and in the meantime continue to amend their website. This looks very fine to me. Inbound marketing takes time.

But after researching the domain name and keywords and the on-page optimization (all kind of tags including meta, your content...), they try to find better ways of higher ranking. Then they begin to believe and search the Holy Grail of internet marketing.

That 's when things begin to complicate. Losing part of their reason in their Quest, they will believe everything and see any new marketing method as a possible path for their illumination.
Now don't get me wrong, there is a lot of very good SEO stuff out there, plus some good products to buy to help you and others to use for free.

But if you feel nervous about what to do and where to begin with internet marketing, then rest assured you are not the only one.
If you are anxious about what to do, write it down on a blog (don't forget to link to your website) ! Blog linking is a good thing to do for internet marketing.

Now why do people get so desperate?

May be they think that they can control the web traffic as opposed to just influence it. When analysing their statistics data, they think they are going to reflect rapidly the result of their marketing work.

If next week is sunny and warm, people will go to the beach instead of shopping online and your statistics might not look very good. See thing on the middle term. Short term is good too but be careful.

Don't think like this guy, going daily to his work with his old petrol car. Most of the time there is a lot of traffic on the road, but for the last 3 days, the traffic was clear.
At the same time our guy buy himself a new hydrogen car. He is very happy to go to work, but then : big traffic congestion. Then he thinks : I shoud'nt have buy this car, now the traffic is awful.

So avoid the guess work with your data and stay pragmatic, keep doing the good job, use the right tools to help you, stick to the principles you know are successful, and then it is a matter of time.

Using SOAP and XML to query a Web Service

How to consume an XML service using SOAP?

First thing you need is a service provider. It can be a service you create yourself, or an existing service like EPM project management service, from Microsoft.

You will then query your service provider and it will return to you the answer.

All these data will be exchanged in XML, which is basically a text file containing tag names and the value of each tag name.

Now, let's go back to a couple of definition:

SOAP defines a way to move XML messages from point A to point B

The Extensible Markup Language (XML) facilitates universal data access. XML is a plain-text, Unicode-based meta-language: a language for defining markup languages. It is not tied to any programming language, operating system, or software vendor. XML provides access to technologies for manipulating, structuring, transforming and querying data.

So basically, a web service provides an interface to be queried and to return answers. XML and SOAP defined how the data will be structured and the transfer protocol to exchange them.

The data content, the queries available depends only from the provider.

Let see an example of one query on a PDS server

Microsoft has defined a set of XML queries available and name them PDS APIs.

PDS APIs

The PDS Application Programming Interface (API) enables client application access to Project Server portfolio data. Client applications can programmatically log on to Project Server and use SOAP to call PDS API methods. The PDS implements a SOAP listener, which receives method calls in XML format and returns an XML response.

In this example, an XML Query called PDSINFO will be sent, using SOAP, to the PDS web service. In return you will have the response below.
